Candle Care
Caring for your candle: a longer, safer, and more beautiful burn.
Quick Tips
Make your BC Scents candle last longer and burn beautifully:
- First burn: let the wax pool reach the edges (≈ 2–3h).
- Before relighting: trim the wooden wick to ≈ 5 mm.
- Burn time: 2–3 hours per session; stop when ~1 cm of wax remains.
- Avoid drafts and unstable surfaces.
- Extinguish gently (snuffer) to reduce smoke.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Trim it right (every time)
Keep your flame steady, your jar clean, and your burn longer by trimming to ~5 mm before each use. A nail clipper or wick trimmer works great.
- Remove any loose char before relighting.
- If the flame looks high, extinguish and trim.
Clean & reuse your jars
For a safe and effective cleaning:
- Place the glass in a tall pot with hot water so the jar floats — do not let water enter the jar.
- When the remaining wax melts, carefully remove the wick tab.
- Using a paper towel, wipe away all leftover wax — be careful, the glass will be hot.
- Once cooled, wash the jar with warm water and mild soap.
- Never pour wax directly down the sink.
- Handle with care to avoid burns or cracks.
Do
- Trim the wick to ~5 mm.
- Burn 2–3 hours per session.
- Keep the first burn to the edges.
Don’t
- Leave unattended or near drafts.
- Move a lit candle.
- Burn below ~1 cm of wax.
Troubleshooting
My wooden wick won’t stay lit.
Trim to ~5 mm, remove loose char, complete the first burn to the edges, and keep away from drafts.
The flame looks too high.
Extinguish, trim to ~5 mm, and keep sessions to 2–3 hours.
I see tunneling.
On the next burn, let the wax reach the edges (2–3h) and avoid drafts so the heat spreads evenly.
How do I avoid soot?
Always trim the wick, avoid very long burns, and extinguish with a snuffer.
Can I burn to the very bottom?
No. Stop when ~1 cm of wax remains for safety.
